Healthy Eating Policy
The number of overweight and obese children in the UK has risen steadily over the past 20 years. Overweight children can develop serious health issues in adulthood. We are responsible for our children's future health.
The most efficient way to tackle the issue of childhood obesity is to instill a healthy diet and eating habits from a young age.
A balanced diet is essential for future health and development. Growing children need plenty of energy and other nutrients to ensure they grow and develop normally. Developing a healthy diet and good eating habits early on will help to lay positive foundations for the future. It is important that children develop healthy eating patterns both at home and at nursery or school.
Children should be encouraged to eat a varied diet including lots of fruit and vegetables, which are particularly important for good health. Under 5's should be encouraged to taste at least 5 different fruits and vegetables a day.
Zebedee's supports the Nutritional Standards from the School Food Trust for school food. We use state of the art nutritional software to develop our menus for both school and nursery with the assistance of our paediatric dietician. Our menus are always available both at school or nursery and on our website.
We strive to use the highest quality fresh food and local and seasonal produce. As all of our meals are made from scratch, we are in control of salt, fat and sugar levels to ensure that we can meet with strict nutrient targets set out by the School Food Trust and the Caroline Walker Trust.
Here at Zebedee's we believe that we are in an excellent position to positively influence the health and wellbeing of the children we cater for, sending a clear message that we take good nutrition very seriously.
